This new volume, edited by Michael Powles and Ian Johnstone, was published recently by Huia Wellington (www.huia.co.nz). It tells the independence stories of 14 Pacific nations as recounted by leaders who shaped these events, such as Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, Sir Tom Davis, Bikenibeu Paeniu, Solomon Mamaloni and others and also features contributions by distinguished women politicians including Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, Dame Carol Kidu and Hon. Sandra Pierantozzi. With support from AusAID’s Pacific Leadership Program and The NZ Development and Conservation Trust, copies of these books (and the accompanying DVD) have been purchased and distributed to every high school and teritary educational institution in the independent or self-governing Pacific. You may listen to many featured interviews on the Radio NZ New Flags Flying site.
